Black Friday, November 25th, is the official start of the holiday season on River Street! The first event is the lighting of the Georgia Power Christmas Tree. Come down to see the giant Christmas tree light up at 5:30 pm. Get there early and take a stroll on River Street, before making your way to Bull and Broughton Street to watch the tree lighting take place. What’s even better is that this event is completely free to attend. There will be live entertainment from local bands, hot cocoa, guest celebrities, and Santa will even be making a special appearance! This is a great event for all, but especially families with young children.

Christmas On The River

One of Savannah’s most popular holiday events,Christmas on the River is a three day festival that takes place starting Friday, December 9th and lasts through the weekend. There will be tons of holiday cheer including live performance dances and music. Santa will also be around for the young kiddos that want to attend this fun filled weekend. The biggest event of the festival features an illuminated parade of boats cruising down the Savannah River. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, December 10th at 5:30 pm. Get there early to get a good spot along the riverfront! Boats decorated with holiday lights will travel down the scenic Savannah River. Enjoy Savannah’s Waterfront with a little holiday cheer!

For the first three Saturdays leading up to Christmas, enjoy the city’s history by taking in the breathtaking views of River Street decked out in holiday decorations and watching live performances from 3pm till 6pm. In the leisure hours before the rockin’ events start, walk around downtown Savannah, and you could spend time shopping, at the bars, or even just enjoying the view of the Savannah River.
